Biking Meditation Saturday Feb. 11
Dear Ones, (please share with your Sanghas)
I am excited to invite you to join me for Biking Meditation on Saturday Feb 11 at 2PM. Meet at the Scott Street Labyrinth (off the Wiggle), 52-98 Scott Street, San Francisco, 94117
We are all familiar with breathing meditation, walking meditation and eating meditation. Now it’s time for Biking Meditation. Let’s continue the legacy of our teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, bringing mindfulness into action and doing one thing at a time.
Biking, I know I am biking.
Join me for the experience of Biking Meditation as inspired by our teacher – let his continuation live in us!
Thay inspired us to live an embodied practice of mindfulness. Why not cycling?
Come experience biking in a new way and meditating in a new way too!
Hope to see you on Saturday,
Augusta

Invitation from Couples Sangha for Sunday 1/29
Dear larger bay area sangha,
Sending you loving energy in this time of hurt with recent violence in our collective consciousness. On behalf of couples sangha, we invite partnered practitioners to come practice with us to build a beloved, intergenerational, mixed heritage, LGBQTIA+ friendly sangha here in Northern Cal.
We meet virtually Sundays from 7-8:30 pm and in person at a practitioner’s home the last Sunday of the month. Inviting you to come check us out if this peaks your curiosity and if you’re looking to practice with your partners. Please email me to be added to our listserv and to receive weekly zoom links/updates!
Eric and I will be hosting this Sunday 1/29. A note for younger practitioners: Eric and I have been the youngest couple (age wise) in the sangha for several years and are ready to give up that title. 😉
Please share with your sanghas!

Updated Sangha directory / in-person and online Sanghas
I have just posted the latest version of the NorCal sangha directory. Please share this with your sanghas — and with any friends looking for a sangha in the Plum Village tradition!
There are many updates in this version. And for the first time we have an “online only” section on the second page, for Bay Area-based sanghas that practice primarily online (currently: Sugarplum and Morning Birds).
Several people have been asking recently which sanghas in the Bay Area are offering in-person meetings. Here are a few that meet in person at least occasionally:
- Heart Sangha (Santa Cruz)
- Majestic Oak Sangha (Redwood City)
- Buckeye Sangha (Berkeley)
- Hella Just (Berkeley)
- Wake Up SF (San Francisco)
There may be others; these are just the ones I’ve heard about in the Bay Area. Details and contact info are in the PDF, of course.
You can always find the latest version of this document online at:

Lazy Day of Mindfulness: Oct. 15 in San Mateo
Dylan, Nina, and Chloe would like to invite you to a Lazy Day of Mindfulness, outdoors in San Mateo’s Central Park, on Saturday, October 15, from 10am – 3:30pm+.
A simple agenda and description is here. If you’re interested in attending, please put your name on the second page.
And if you’d like to facilitate something, please put your name on the agenda on the first page — or suggest an activity if it’s not already there. This will be a co-created space: Exactly what happens will depend on who shows up.
What is a “lazy” day of mindfulness? This means we are holding the schedule loosely, so as to make this day as restful as it is mindful. Come late, leave early – it’s okay.
See the linked document for more details and to sign up!

Rains Retreat + Karma Class from Sugarplum
This double invitation is from Sugarplum Sangha.
90 Day Online Rains Retreat
Sept 16 – Dec 18 Sugarplum joins the Mahasangha in this year’s 90 day rains retreat. For our second retreat of this kind, we’ve added evening practice sessions, a weekly day of mindfulness, and a study and practice series on Right Action: Karma and the Five Mindfulness Trainings to our regular schedule of morning practice session, dharma talk, and 5MT recitation. These 90 days will be an experience of being immersed in sangha to deepen your practice of mindfulness, concentration, and insight, a way of practice that has been integral to buddhist tradition since its beginning. Enter this stream with us and start your journey to the other shore.
Right Action: Karma and the Five Mindfulness Trainings
Sept 27 – Dec 18
A twelve week live and on-line course exploring and integrating early Buddhist teachings with Plum Village practices. Bundle with the 90 Day Retreat or take it separately.
The Buddha’s teachings on kamma and rebirth have received a mostly mystical treatment among practitioners and commentators resulting in much misconception and confusion about how to apply them in daily life. This course will explore the role of samma kammanto, or Right Action, on the path of liberation and will combine the Buddha’s teachings with evolutionary psychology to provide a rationale for an objective morality and ethic. Rather than being resigned to “your karma”, a close reading of the early discourses show how you can shape your life in the present and future with skillful actions.
