SUMMARY:Deepening White Awareness & Engaged Practice
DESCRIPTION:How in these times can the Plum Village practice community contribute to transforming racial injustice and support wise\, skillful\, and compassionate action grounded in love—in short\, create beloved community? \nPlease join the Deepening White Awareness Sangha for three half-days of mindfulness\, offered to individuals who self-identify as white\, to mindfully explore our whiteness. We will follow the Plum Village teachings and practices throughout our time together\, which will include meditation\, sharing\, and grounding exercises. The series is open to people who are beginning this mindful exploration\, and to those who have experience. During the series\, we will: \n\nDeepen awareness of white privilege\, benefits and biases within ourselves\nCultivate capacity to take action for racial justice\nCreate community for ongoing support and action\n\n \nSession I: February 10\, 9 AM – 12 Noon (Pacific) \nMindfully Exploring Whiteness: Where are you in your white awareness journey? \nSession 2: March 9\, 9 AM – 12 Noon (Pacific) \nMindfully Exploring Whiteness:  What is your understanding of white privilege\, benefits\, and biases in yourself and society? \nSession 3: April 13\, 9 AM – 12 Noon (Pacific) \nMindfully Exploring Whiteness: How can you create community for ongoing support and action? \nPlease use this Registration Form. For questions\, email DeepeningWhiteAwareness@yahoo.com \n\nThe Deepening White Awareness Sangha was founded in 2016 in Oakland\, CA. We create a loving space where we reflect on encounters with racism in ourselves and in our world; a space where we can give voice to our heartbreak\, deepen our understanding of systemic racism\, and support each other in taking skillful action. Along with resources to help us recognize our implicit conditioning\, we use practices for transformation and healing inspired by Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. We gather and practice together as white people – not to exclude\, but rather to take responsibility for our work in dismantling racism. We’ve also been asked to create such spaces by People of Color in our communities (See The Path of Racial and Social Equity by Marisela B. Gomez and Valerie Brown.)
