SUMMARY:DOM at Canticle Farm in East Oakland
DESCRIPTION:Singing Frog Sangha wants to warmly invite you to a Day of Mindfulness we’re hosting on July 25th\, 9a-4p at Canticle Farm (1972 36th Ave\, Oakland)! We would love for you to come join us in practice. \n\n\n\nThe inspiration for the day is to reflect on stories from the founding of our tradition\, in resistance to war authoritarianism in Vietnam\, and how we can live that spirit today. Here’s the description: \n\n\n\nThe Plum Village tradition has its roots in a period of violent authoritarian repression of Buddhism and social work in Vietnam in the 1960s. In this Day of Mindfulness\, we will look deeply into stories of how monks\, nuns\, and lay people\, including Thich Nhat Hanh\, Sister Chan Khong\, Nhat Chi Mai\, and others found strength in the dharma and took bold\, loving action to resist authoritarianism and war. Rooted in the stories of our spiritual ancestors\, we will contemplate questions like: How might we continue their spirit of dharmic resistance in our own times? What blocks might be preventing us from living in deeper alignment with our values? What medicine might our tradition and our sangha(s) have to offer our movements? We will also have concrete opportunities to connect with existing and emerging liberation efforts like the ICE Out of Dublin Coalition\, Singing Resistance\, Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity\, and more. We will have ample time for silent practice\, mindful movement\, and a vegetarian meal.  \n\n\n\nHere’s a link to rsvp\, which also has more info! Feel free to forward to other friends and local sanghas if you like. We have a cap of 35 participants\, so we may not be able to accept everyone who wants to come\, but if folks are interested in the topic\, we can do it again!

SUMMARY:July Day of Mindfulness: Great Love and Letting Go
DESCRIPTION:Update: This day of mindfulness is now at capacity\, so we are no longer accepting reservations. \n\n\n\nYou are invited to a Day of Mindfulness Hosted by Potluck Sangha \n\n\n\nJoin us for a nourishing day of mindfulness dedicated to exploring the depth and freedom of Great Love—a love that is spacious\, wise\, and liberating. Rooted in the teachings of the Buddha and inspired by the insights of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh\, this day invites you to touch the heart of love through presence\, reflection\, and gentle practice. \n\n\n\nThe Buddha taught that true love has four essential elements: lovingkindness (metta)\, the ability to offer gentleness and well-being; compassion (karuna)\, the capacity to be in touch with suffering and the wish to alleviate it; joy (mudita)\, the delight in the happiness of others; and equanimity (upekkha)\, a balanced\, steady openness of heart. Thay Thich Nhat Hanh offered a beautiful insight in translating equanimity as inclusiveness—a love that embraces all without discrimination\, that does not cling\, exclude\, or take sides. \n\n\n\nWhat does it mean to experience equanimity as inclusiveness? How is equanimity deeply connected to letting go? How is letting go an expression of true love? \n\n\n\nThis day will invite us to reflect on the willingness to love without needing to hold on\, to care without needing to control\, and to be present without needing things to be different. It is the courage to allow change\, impermanence\, and uncertainty—and still remain open-hearted. This is Great Love: a love that liberates rather than confines. \n\n\n\nPlease bring a bag lunch\, floor cushion\, and a yoga mat or blanket (for uncarpeted flooring) if you would like to lie down during deep relaxation/guided meditation. The room will also have chairs available.  \n\n\n\nThis retreat is now full. \n\n\n\nCome as you are. Leave lighter. \n\n\n\nQuestions?  \n\n\n\nV (veronica.riglick@gmail.com) or Tamar (tlxenoch@icloud.com) \n\n\n\nPlease note the late morning start time! \n\n\n\nThis will be held a the Rossmoor Gateway Clubhouse: 1001 Golden Rain Road\, Walnut Creek\, CA 94595\, in Multipurpose Room 3 \n\n\n\nRides from Rockridge BART station can be requested. (Rossmoor is a 20-minute ride from Rockridge station.)
